So, schools have 'begun' for both Figlia and M. Figlia gets work on Google C.lassroom, and M gets regular assignments which he is expected to complete.
It is much better for me this way, because kids do it on their pace, and with their mother's pace. Since a few parents are now asking for classes, I am hoping that the kids do not switch to online classes, because I would be stretched to plan the availability of the apt resources for both of them to attend school virtually.
I am already four weeks into teaching the new semester, and we don't have to turn up to work every day. I make it to office on 4 days on an average. Rest of the days, I engage classes from home.
Going online has increased the work required to deliver the lectures. Content, pre-reads/cases and low-stake-high-frequency quizzes are a bundle getting prepped for every lecture being taken.
WHO has recently said that the pandemic is accelerating. I can only guess why. No one can shut down a country for two years. So many governments have levied lockdowns and restricted movement, and yet, every contact has an explosive potential. I hope the cure and the vaccine come out soon, but I don't want the scientists to 'rush' the vaccine.
For a while Cov.id appeared an alien thing, but now it has entered lives of people in the extended neighbourhood, colleagues from my office building, and extended family who are enduring it. There is nothing a government can do, if citizens are casual in social distancing or sanitizing like they breathe. And well, I think that fatigue is setting in already.
I have found a series I am really into these days. It's called Dark and is on Netflix. I found it now, and there are three seasons and the series is over already. I am still on Season 1, but I have started and stopped many TV Shows/ Web series, but this one is intelligent and of the genre I adore. And in the process, I have now found a lot of great music....(credit: Dark and Twin Peaks)
What new thing have you found? Are you hooked to something?
It's always so good to see your posts! It sounds as if you and yours are doing as well as could be expected during all of this. We are all safe here, too, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteStay safe, my friend.
Schooling is extremely fraught here, with opinions that seem to find both children and teachers disposable. It's unrealistic to imagine kids back in the classroom without a major surge in infection rates, but some people are insistent. We shall see how it goes, I guess.
ReplyDeleteWe've been watching a lot of TV of late - that's what happens when you have nowhere to go. A lot of what I've been watching has been distinctly American stuff. But my husband, daughter, and I enjoyed Locke & Key on Netflix. It might be a little creepy for Figlia, but it was spooky without being really scary. We just finished watching Little Fires Everywhere - another very American story - you might like that one. It's on Hulu here. Also on Hulu, a movie called Palm Springs - very entertaining. I've got about 3 series that I'm watching - Normal People (based on a book I haven't read), Mrs. America (haven't decided if I'm going to finish this, although it's about the feminist movement in the US in the 1970s), and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (based on A Douglas Adam's series which I absolutely love) which is...too complex to explain but is about the fundamental interconnectedness of things.
Sorry to hear the coronavirus is infringing on you. I don't know what's worse - being concerned about the disease or fighting with the conspiracy theorists who are determined to downplay the risks.
I hope M and Figlia are enjoying their new school!
