I am better now. I still sound hoarse, completely aided by taking back to back classes on most weekdays ( :-) ).
I consciously uncoupled from the the groups that riled me on Facebook. I haven't run out of fuel, but the discussions are just causing me anguish, and no one is willing to see the other's point of view at all. The thought leaders are also not helping their followers at all.
Also, those who cry at inhumanity turn a complete blind eye, when the victim is of not their faith. Then, I found a freedom-singer who was sharing videos of a person, whose impassioned speech was recorded continents away. When I told this screaming guy that while he is here in the eye of the storm, the person who he believes to be of his cause is enjoying his life in the western world, leaving him behind to be in the line of fire, apparently, I am just trying to confuse him!!!
People only choose to see what they want to see, and have no problems turning away from things that cause any dissonance. Ugh.
M is in mode talkative these days. It's amazing to watch kids talk when they have just learnt new words. But making him eat is hard.
I told DH last night that the way M is having dinner, with so much crying and whatnot, is not sustainable at all. He starts refusing food when he sees me serve dinner to Figlia (he knows I am coming for him next).
I have also tried to not force him, and wait for him to get really hungry and ask for food. That strategy failed because when he got really hungry, he got cranky but did not budge on not wanting something to eat. The magic is that by the time he eats half of his food, he gets quieter and more settled, but to convince him for it is hard.
Your son sounds so much like mine (and my daughter). Getting my kids to eat is a daily torture for me. Every meal we have to ask them to take every bite. Once my son ate an entire bowl of noodles--one noodle at a time! Every time I tried to slip in a second noodle he spit it out. Sometimes I catch a kid in public just eating his or her food because they are hungry and that is what humans do when they are hungry, and I stare in disbelief. I don't know when my kids will get there. My daughter is 7 and it still hasn't happened.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course you can't wait until he is really, because by then he had lost his mind. At least that is how my kids are.
One noodle at a time? I am so ready to believe that they are killing us with it.
DeleteI think this is why patience is a lesson from motherhood.
Sometimes, I think that maybe I should stop caring about it, and he will come around to it, but then my brain disagrees to that.
You can try telling him that he's cranky because he's hungry, and that he'll feel better when he eats something. I'm sure he recognizes that everyone is getting on his nerves. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't take on the FB rants too often, because they are exhausting. I have decided on a few fronts from which I will not back down, but some things that make me irate...I have to let pass.
I tell him that: "You will feel better after you have eaten". He still throws fits.
DeleteLet pass - I am doing that because I found myself simmering for a long while later. I have better use for my energy.
