I noticed recently that M is more into cuddly, soft toys than what Figlia was at this age. He carries the toys around, gives them kisses, and well, he slept with Winnie the Pooh besides him last night.
He is still not giving up his night feeds, even if he has had dinner. While he uses cups/tumbler with ease for water and juices, he refuses milk in any other thing but the bottle.
He has also voluntarily started asking for colours and crayons, and often scribbles on copies, and sometimes draws lines right across Figlia's work (which drives her up the wall).
I bought her uniform last night, and while we were there, Figlia noticed the other stuff at the store, and kept asking me if she could have a new school bag, and other things. I explained to her that we buy new stuff only when the old one has gone bad.
A common thing here is that lot of kids start a new grade with a new school bag/new compass box and stuff, but I have so far resisted doing it. I find it wasteful. I got her a new bag mid-session last time because her previous one tore, and she will continue to use this bag till it goes out. So she will get a new thing irrespective of what stage the session is in, but I don't buy the theory that every school year must start with sparkly new stuff.
I want her to eventually understand the difference between the things we must have and need not have. And oh, it will be a favour if she can keep the stationary in her compass box right. We run through sharpeners and erasers through the academic year in droves.
One of the things I am struggling with is TV time. Figlia and then M, are hung on cartoons. And if they are home, the TV has to be on, and even if Figlia is convinced, M hankers for it constantly.
DH has been ultra busy at work, and that's a good thing.
My daughter has been using the same backpack for the past 3 years. It's starting to show some wear, so she can make it last until the end of the year (with DIY repairs, if necessary - the girl has plenty of duct tape), and she will get a new backpack when she starts next fall at her new school. So, I'll buy the shiny new things at the beginning of the year...providing the old things were worn out enough to justify. I'll buy them sooner if they can't be made to last.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a lot of TV time when both parents are home...but if only one is there? The TV helps.
