Graces - I

We had been meaning to try out a newly opened eating joint in the city, and last night DH decided to get dinner packed from there. He came home from the office, and took Figlia along for getting the food.

They were in the parking lot, and Figlia had opened the car door to let herself in. DH saw three boys on a motorcycle coming towards the car from the opposite direction. They themselves must have been trying to get out of the parking and onto the main road but had decided to weave a shortcut of some sort. They were speeding, and Figlia's door was wide open.

DH yelled to the boys and got to her side, in time to shut the door. The boys stopped their bike just as Figlia's door was slammed shut and she barely made it inside.

They thought it was some rush, because they just decided to go through the same trajectory.

DH stood right in front of them. The guy driving the bike, set one hand on acceleration while the brake was already pressed.

If you can visualize this, you can imagine that the temperatures would have soared already.

DH was seething and demanded an explanation from the boys, and the boys acted insolent and cocky as they refused to see anything wrong in this scenario given that the child was not hurt!!

So many things could have gone wrong?

What if the boys had not applied brakes until they actually reached the car?

What if they decided to run when DH stood in front of them?

What if Figlia was not safely inside the car, and it was her lucky day since no limb of hers got caught in the car door being slammed shut?

The good thing was that none of the boys were drunk or high.

Also, the whole incident got recorded on the camera installed in the parking area. The third good thing was that a cop intervened, and it was only at the cop's arrival that the arrogance in the boys melted away, and they began begging forgiveness and profusely apologizing. Till the cop came, only one of the three was saying anything resembling forgiveness.

Hubby did not press charges. The cop got all the details.

Glad everyone came home safe.

  1. Wow - that must have been very frightening to hear about. And I bet your DH was extremely angry with the boys. I'm glad the cop arrived, because you never know how those sorts of confrontations will turn out. And I'm glad everyone got home safely.

  2. When the possibility of "what could go wrong" becomes almost tangible in front of me, I feel fear dropping as acid inside of me. I'm so glad that they came home safely. I doubt those boys really grasped the meaning of it all. But I am very happy they did not learn the meaning of "reality check" when your loved ones were involved.
