The Feisty and The Death Angel

We spent our New Year's at my aunt's place. On NYE, there was a small gathering of their friends and acquaintances to ring in 2015. One of the guests brought her friend along, and this friend described Figlia as a 'fascinating creature'. Her comment was a bit Seuss kind.

But I do believe that Figlia does leave quite an impression on those who encounter her. She is far too eloquent for her age. Her personality comes through everything she does.

And that is why I am filled with a little bit sense of dread. I do not want to do anything that can flounder her blossoming or affect her psychology adversely. I do believe that brilliant minds are more easily pained.

I cannot evaluate my own parenting. I look like someone dragged through the forest than an earth goddess most days...some days I look better under the rock than on it.

Death has swept by my lot already this year. A person in the family has recently been awarded the death sentence by Cancer. It's no longer a question of whether, it is a question of when. Medication for him is not a way to cure the cancer, but to hopefully prolong his remaining life.

And then this woman dropped dead unexpectedly yesterday morning. She was the wife of our family's highly trusted helper.  Her death reminds me of the song 'Ironic' by Alanis Morissette. She died in the hospital, surrounded by medical staff and family. She used to just keep getting to this point and going home. No one expected her to succumb.

  1. I'm sorry for your loss. That's kind of how my mom went - she'd been ill with various and assorted ailments for years, but all of a sudden, something came along and took her unexpectedly.

And I'm sorry to hear of your relative's cancer - I hope the rest of his life is mostly pleasant and free from pain.

My child was and still is very amusing to adults - she seems to regard them as peers, which sometimes leads to problems. She's bossy and somewhat rude. I struggle to refine her behavior without crushing her spirit...although I do sometimes. You'll figure it out.

  2. Just when one thinks that life is finally smooth and has what it wants, that is when life shifts the paradigme and leaves one quite bewildered again. I share the feelings of destitute mother, sometimes I feel like all my efforts are pointless, and the difference is that I now do make efforts. Many times I do not know who is raising whom, and I marvel at these little wonders that I get to my children. And the bonus is that I can argue with them, and sometimes win. :-) But not always.
