So Much Happens before We Get to The 'All is Well That Ends Well' Part

So M arrived.

It must tinge your hazy awareness when the doc picks the baby from your open tummy and says, 'the baby is dull'. And then, tells that it is a boy and the baby is picked and Superped and his people get to work. I don't get to see the baby after that, except in the photographs clicked by the husband. And then next day, I get to peek at him in the NICU.

Today M is eight days old. He went straight to the NICU with respiratory distress and tachypnea and all that goes with it. All my kids love getting too drunk on the amniotic fluid too.

He spent three and a half days in the NICU, including stay on the CPAP machine. The day he was shifted back to my room, he scared us again in the late evening after his breathing became peculiar after a feeding session. He again spent the night in the NICU.

All included, we came back home past Sunday.

It would be too early to say anything, but here are a few things I want to rattle.

a. My hands are full. #sigh #obviously, right?
b. Figlia adores her little brother....and it was upsetting to try and keep her away from cuddling the infant too much.
c. Figlia has become too sensitive. DH has been with us for a while now and he goes back today. She misses her daddy too much, And after the baby has come, the changes that ensued also make her very easily upset.
d. I have this throbbing pain sometimes at the site where the spinal was administered. I have a prescription for a pain killer, and I hope this does not stay long.

  1. Congrats to M's arrival!! I'm sorry about the scares and the NICU stay, I hope he will thrive from now on. I can understand Figlia missing her dad and having a little baby brother takes some adjustment for her too of course, prepare yourself for some broken keepsakes, drawings on walls, etc, to get your attention... Ah, but who can really blame them...
Yes, your hands are full, but it's better than empty isn't it (although I know we all want some respite every now and then)?
I hope you will get a chance to recuperate a bit. Take care of yourself!

  2. Congrats! Sorry for the scares and issues. The transition can be difficult, from one kid to more. I hope Fiflia adjusts without too much trouble. V had the hardest time, the first month was awful. He was jealous, confused, and had attachment issues (he kept thinking I would vanish again). It got better, it just took time. Take care, and good luck!

  3. Hurrah for M and his arrival! So glad to hear that he is here, and you are all home and hopefully doing well. Poor Figlia, she's had quite a lot thrown at her (to be fair, so have you! But unfortunately as an adult you're expected to be able to deal...). Hopefully time will help her ease in to things, and soon what is new will become normal.

  4. Huge congratulations on the arrival of M. I'm sorry all was not straightforward. The transition from 1 to 2 can be hard at the beginning but it is so amazing to see their differences and to see them interact and grow together.

  6. Glad he's here although I'm sure skipping the NICU stay would have been nice. Hope you're getting some sleep.

  7. Welcome M!

I'm happy he arrived and is now behaving properly. Congratulations!

Figlia will adjust, but it is all so different now. It will take her some time.

I hope your pain will soon disappear. And I'm sure that you're handling things very well, in spite of being overwhelmed.

  8. Congratulations, my dear, and welcome, baby M!
I am sorry to hear the first days were so hard. Everyone needs to adjust to the new arrival, but no one can say how long it will take. F is old and know-it-all-ish enough to tell the difference between being an only child and having a sibling. Best of luck with that! :-) And hopefully the pain will go away and you'll be able to get busy with the new role.
I must confess that I realised I was holding my breath when I saw a new post from you, and I could only breathe properly only when I reached the end. I am so happy for you that this leg of the journey has ended. And you're back home, with M. It has been a long road. Hugs. Wishing you all the best.

  9. I've been holding my breath too...
Oh Elsie I'm SO glad M is here and (now) safe.
Give him a kiss on the nose from me.
(and send me a photo please?!)

  11. Hugs and congrats!!!! Most likely the respiratory issues were from prematurity rather than amniotic fluid, unless he got a huge gulp of meconium or some such. Glad he's doing much better now.

  14. Congratulations.
This delivery with NICU must have been very upsetting for you, reminding you of your first baby. I hope it wasn't too much for you.

My collar bone was going numb for a couple of months after the spinal, then it got ok.

With Timothy it took a couple of months for him to stop getting upset with everything. Fot him to get used to being a big brother.

    Good luck!!!

What a fright he must have given you though, I'm sorry his birth wasn't smooth sailing.

  16. So, so sorry to be late to share my congratulations at this most happy news. I am sorry about the scare he gave you and having to balance your daughters feelings in the midst of so much change. The early days/weeks with a newborn are such a haze and fleeting but can also be such a challenge. Hope you all are assimilating.

  17. Phew, I'm sorry for the scary arrival and first few days, but YAY for M being here and being home with you and healthy now! You'll find your new rhythm with two of them to split your attention between. Congrats!

Season...

With very limited time and access to the netz, I just want to declare that Lady Season is here. She arrived last Wednesday, and I will someday in future speak of how due to SuperPed's preparedness a crisis was averted. I tend to have firework endings. Her with me, and my first chance of mothering is like a spray of cold water on my face. I am very sleep deprived. Apparently, wise birds said to me that I should sleep when the girl sleeps, but so far my body schedule and kid's schedule are haywire. I hope to be better adapted to this soon. It is tough for me to find net time as of now, and there are a couple of things I want to post online, since CBub's dates also passed by recently, but so far it does not seem to be happening. And I just want to say thanks. Even though I am craptastic at responding, I am reading off and on as I can manage.
