Very Long Overdue

1. I have meant to post for a while now, but technical issues and time issues prevented me.
2. There will be ~~TMI~~ in some part of the post, so you have to be prepared for that.

In the beginning of June, we made a short trip to our hometown. It was only a three-day visit, but quite a bit was accomplished in those three. We took care of some family thing at DH's side of the family, and I met SuperGyn. SuperGyn will be my doc for the last trimester and beyond in the current pregnancy as well.

That first week of June was significant also because I started 'feeling' the baby then. It was just fluttery, but I knew what that flutter was.

I had my Nuchal fold u/s in my hometown, and we saw the baby sucking his/her thumb, and then practicing for the FIFA matches. It was great to see that. My mother and Figzy were also there in the ultrasound room, and Figzy panicked. She thought the doctor was hurting me, and repeated told her grandma that the doctor was giving injections to mummy on her tummy.

However, the trip became epic for a totally different reason too. This time around, it appears my stomach is sensitive to certain food items, which I had no issues with otherwise. We had pizza on Saturday night (Ju.ne 7) at my in-law's place. There was sweet corn in one of the pizzas (I haven't had sweet corn since I became pregnant), and immediately after dinner, I had one session of throwing up.

We slept around 11 p.m., and at 1 a.m. I made my first trip to the throne. By 5:45 a.m. I had already been to the throne five-six times, and after my last episode, I wanted to lie down in the bathroom itself because I had no energy to walk to the bed. And my stomach had started aching bad. I phoned up my mum, and I took an anti-diarrhea med to kill the bowel movements.

I was wiped. I felt dead, and I looked like a dead fish. Sunday, a trip had been planned to some place near by, and I spent the day at DH's cousin house as I had no energy for any trip whatsoever.

Thankfully, my bowels haven't acted that bad since then, but I am really conscious about what I eat.

I am currently just touching 15 weeks, and I still have nausea. In fact, this time around, I have thrown up more than my two pregnancies added together.

Figlia is just over 29 months, and every day it seems that there is some new development in her.

Currently, we are trying to wean her off the bottle, and so far, it seems to be working. I tried different things in the past (including diluting her milk), but we have just gone cold turkey on her. Crows have taken away her bottle, and that's that. She is whiny, and creates a ruckus at her daycare but every day the whine quotient is going down.

Figzy drinks from water bottles, straw cups, plain cups, tumblers but she wanted milk in her bottle only, and that was becoming an issue.

  1. Cold turkey has seemed to be the way the has worked best for us, too. It certainly requires a parent will to stick with it, though! Part of the reason I had Gwen throw her pacifiers into the trash when she said good-bye to them was so that I wouldn't be tempted to hang on to them "in case"! Hopefully Figlia's figures out that milk from a cup is still milk, soon. :)

  2. Sometimes, you just have to be the mean mommy. It's painful for a while, but the kid eventually gets used to her new reality.

Sorry to hear that New Baby doesn't like corn. Or other items, apparently. I hope he/she stops objecting to food, so you can enjoy the rest of the growing time.

Glad you got the chance to post!

  3. We weaned down and switched to a transition sippy with DS, but at the end of the day we had to just drop it cold turkey- it was the only way he wanted milk too. It was rough, and it took awhile for him to start drinking milk again, but he did eventually. I'm sure she'll adjust.

Sorry about the dietary and tummy issues, that is rough!

  4. Hope your tummy troubles calm down soon so you can fully savor the little kicks!

  5. When we weaned E from bottles, we put them all away and told her the fairies took them.

  6. Cold turkey worked for us as well. We tried a gradual approach with the dummy, but it didn't work, so cold turkey it was (he dropped it outside "in a bug turd", which was just a black patch on the terrace, and didn't want to use it again, and when he asked for another, we sadly informed him that there were not making dummies for his age anymore. All dummies sold in shops were for younger children. Somehow, he believed us. I felt terrible lying, but I got over it.
Glad to hear from you. I hope you have no more experiences like the sweet corn one. Feeling the baby is so wonderful. F will be such a big help when the baby comes, you will see. She will understand more, and she will be much more cooperant.
