I was involved in a tiff with someone at work.
I actually had no idea that I had rubbed salt in her eyes till I landed in her cabin for some routine follow-up and got tonged by her. She yelled at me. In hindsight, I feel I should have kept quiet, but I acted on impulse, and lost my cool. And then there were two yelling orangutans in the cabin. I gained my senses fast, and I came out from the cabin.
The wisest thing I did was to immediately report to my Director, and that saved me any chances of her reporting the incident first and dressing the whole thing her way.
But she has made me feel very small. I felt slighted. I tried to forget the episode. As the days have passed, I have felt better. But just looking at her makes me feel stressed. She is pretty slick. My sense to speak to my superior was really the wisest thing coz her special talent is presenting facts her way.
How do you deal with such people? What if avoiding them is not an option?

Sorry you're dealing with that. I wish I had some advice, but I don't. I've had issues like that at work before, but I'm never near as slick as the person I have issues with and usually have to just avoid and attempt to remain civil. It's a tough situation to be in. I hope someone has better advice for you and this issue resolves fairly quickly.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to deal with such situations... In my previous job, throughout the 5 years I spent there, I simply outlived all the nasty people... they didn't last long (but made me suffer while they were there)...
ReplyDeleteIf you can't avoid, you have to outmaneuver. You've already observed her techniques, so you have to work around them. Always get your side of the story in first. Don't let her get the edge. And try not to lose your cool again - never give her any advantage.
ReplyDeleteI know this lady that turns any shouting, raving baboon into one very ashamed kitten only by NOT raising the voice, being always polite, and taking no crap from no one. She is amazing, I want to be like her when I grow up. Which will be sometime this side of never. She really is an imoressive sight, I have seen her bullied by male coworkers, and she confronted them with that even tone of voice, poinitng out their stupid behaviour, and they were just reduced to a babbling pitiful version of themselves. Amazing, I am telling you. Be like that if you can.
