The Reigning Agenda in the Household

We are very (as in very) close to Figzy's second birthday, and we have planned a proper party this time around. The venue is decided, the menu is fixed. The cake's been ordered.

The guest list for the main party was an interesting exercise. We planned to call in some of our neighbours, either side of the family, our friends, and people whose invites we need to reciprocate, since we have been part of their dos in earlier years, even when we did not have children. DH sent an invite to his whole office (he is in a superior position) and had it easy.

I am a minion in my office, and I chose to go through the entire employee list and then pick just a limited number of names, rather than an open for all. My problem was that I felt a little guilty and "exclusive" at not calling some when I called the others, but I would rather keep it that way.

I intend to hold a smaller do in Figzy's daycare later.

Figzy's little finger felt the brunt of a closing door in her daycare, and that has been the new first of this week. She has been slamming drawers and doors for a while now, but this was her first proper ouchie.

Also, the waves of candywhine are passing through the house right now. She has learnt to ask for, and keep asking for, and then pretend cry for "toffee" or "chocolate". If one ignores the pretend-crying for long enough, it becomes actual crying.

Figzy can sing from one to ten, though she eats a few of them when she wants....so you can distinguish the six and seven, but then there is straight ten.  She also hums the Alphabet Song, and she is better at that than the numbers.

  1. May her birthday be filled with joy :) I hope the party goes well.

V has learned to ask for candy too lol, and hones in on the crinkle noise a wrapper makes... so mommy can not sneak and eat some while he's away. We must share. lol. They really pick that one up fast!

  2. I never would've thought that I could hear the alphabet song (in English AND German) day in and day out and think it beautiful. Ditto counting of numbers from 1-10 in both languages. She's pretty good at those: Now we need to introduce the teens. :)

Happy early birthday, Figlia! I hope she enjoys all the celebration around her. Gwen *still* knows which gifts she got for her birthday, and occasionally wanders around the house singing happy birthday to herself. So sweet.

  3. Ugh - the candy demands start already! My rotten child, who is going through a non-eating phase, got mad at me because I forbade her from having any candy. Then, when her father told her to ask me to do something (or get something) for her, she turned to do it, and then said "Oh, that's right. I'm mad at you. Never mind."

It's so fun to watch them learn the letters and numbers and shapes and colors - because those are easy to teach.

Happy Birthday to Figlia - enjoy the party!

  4. we don't have a candy problem since we haven't exposed Timothy to it... but we went thru a cookie problem. Which we solved by actually eliminating cookies in the house. When there are none - there are none. You don't even have the option to cave in. So after a few days he stopped asking for it.

He still might occasionally ask - but we say we have none and then offer an apple or raisins or whatever... and he seems satisfied.

    Good luck with the party!

  6. Happy belated birthday, Figlia! I hope the party was a blast. George is very sympathetic to your requests for candy. What kind of childhood is that without candy?! In time she will get more reasonable with what she asks and what she gets. And then there will be a set back, and so on, back and forth, until she can buy her own candy. :-)
