Dear Daughter woke up coughing yesterday morning. I felt lucky to have caught it in time. Her nose was not congested, it was just the cough. I sent her medicine with her to the daycare, and told them how it was to be administered.
I thought it would be good in no time.
Evening, when I was already on my way back, I got a call from the daycare that she had a low-grade fever.
Once home, I gave her an paracetamol, and she responded well to it. The fever was gone. I was at ease. She was still coughing, but things looked okay.
She slept by 8 o'clock. At 9:15 p m, I was doing random bits of neglected housework when DH and I heard her talking loudly. I went in. She was awake. I shushed her and she fell asleep.
It still looked good.
I went to sleep at 10.
DH came to bed at around 11.
Daughter was awake, demanding me in the human pacifier role, and I wanted her comfortable, so I gave in. She wouldn't let go at all. The cough began harassing her even more. If I kept her raised, she would be comfortable. If I put her down, in five minutes, she would wind up again.
Around midnight, I noticed that she felt warm.
Her fever had returned.
I gave her paracetamol. She vomited.
I waited for half an hour, and gave her paracetamol. She vomited.
After that, till about 6 o'clock today morning, it was round after round of hubby walking around with her/ me as human pacifier/ Figlia talking*/Figlia crying after startling herself with some unknown stimuli*/or her coughing.
And I do not know how, but I have squeezed tiny winks for myself in between.
I now have a prescription for her. The doctor has said that the thing will take its own time, and it will be 4-5 days atleast.
I did leave her at the creche today.
And I cried after I left her there. I cannot tolerate anything happening to her. Anything that I cannot set right immediately.
* She is so me. As a kid, I used to babble a lot when I had fever. Also, I used to have bad dreams, that would sometimes jolt me enough to not go back to sleep for a while. I am not sure how dear daughter has got the same trait. This can't be genetic, can it?
Poor Figlia. Poor you! I do hope she feels better quickly and you are able to get more than a few winks of sleep.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand not being able to tolerate anything happening to her. Many, many hugs to you. Many hugs.
Praying for swift healing and peaceful rest for body and spirit.
ReplyDeleteAs for the 'talking' thing, I believe that things like that can be inherited traits. I've seen several traits of my wee-ling self in Ginny over the past months.
If only mothers could nip colds in the bud... But you know what they say, left alone, a cold lasts a week; treat it with medicine, and it lasts seven days. It is what it is. You can only do so much to help. They need to go through this to gain immunity.
ReplyDeleteHope you're all feeling better soon and get some well deserved rest.
ReplyDeletepoor figgie :( but i must say, you are lucky, if louise has a fever she can't go to daycare.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a rough night! I hope she is feeling better soon. It sounds like the nights I have when my boys have an ear infection.
ReplyDeleteTake Care!
Ah, poor kid :( I hope she gets well very soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope she's feeling better soon. There's nothing more sad than a tiny girl with a cold. I hate feeling ineffectual.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter totally has my husband's sleep habits. She can't go to sleep if there's anything on her mind. She wants to talk at bedtime. She wakes up easily in the middle of the night. It's gotta be genetic.
Feel better soon, Figlia!
ReplyDeleteYou too, Elsie.
Oh, poor Figlia. :( I hope she's feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteHaving a sick kiddo is one of the worst. It's even harder with working, I think, because you know you are screwed with the sleep, and can;t nap during the day.
ReplyDelete:(
ReplyDeleteI hope Figlia gets well soon!
Timothy recently tipped forward and broke his gum. He cried for maybe 2 minutes, I still ache...
So sorry poor Figlia isn't feeling well =( I really hope she's feeling better very soon. Hope things are rosy in your house soon!
