The Good

I love her daycare. I like the family, and the helpers appear child-friendly.

When I leave Figlia there, I like to hang around for a few minutes, and chat with the kids, and the staff. Initially, I thought that would help me get to know them better. Now, I like to do it because I like to do it.

If I give medicines for Figlia, they are given on time. They ensure that she has her meal at reasonable time.

I don't get soiled nappies/pajamas....they are rinsed with water before being handed over to me. I appreciate it.

The general class of children there are mostly from families who are neither filthy rich nor very poor. It translates to children who are not hugely divided by what each of them are wearing or bringing with them to the creche.

Figlia now recognizes the people there. She smiles at them and does not cry about going from my arms into theirs.

The Not So

Dear Daughter's sleep is completely tossed there. She takes two naps there and they are mostly 15-20 minutes long. She impresses everyone if she sleeps for more than 45 minutes at one slot, and that happens once in 10 days or so. When at home, Figlia will nap for atleast one hour in a single go. Sleep remains big trouble.

After I told them, they do try to make her sleep at 3:30 pm. It means that I do not have baby ready for nap at 6 o'clock. But her sleeping is disturbed.

In general, Figlia gets distracted easily, and is often startled by loud or queer noises. They have reported that sometimes, she is woken up from her nap by people coughing or sneezing. I am sure, I cannot maintain that high level of soundlessness on my own either.

Figlia wants to remain in the arms of the creche lady or one of the helpers. At home, she plays on her own, but there she demands to be held most of the time.

For the last week or so, Figlia has this red rash on her bums which disappears after a generous spread of her nappy rash cream, but keeping the region dry, and changing her immediately is the one thing that they are not doing well at all. What is compounding this is the fact that Figlia responds by generous pooping, for every new thing she eats. So yeah.

  1. Sounds like things are working out well with just a few things to talk about... AND remember they are being paid to keep her happy so if holding her does this so be it :)

It's like the grandparents, gotta hold and do way more than at home with mom and dad and it takes time to "re-calibrate" so to speak..
    You are doing awesome!

  2. Every day care has good and bad things. As she grows she will get better at everything. On the fact that she wakes up easily if there is some sort of noise, you can try and de-sensitise her to noises (low volume radio for example), apparently it works! (says the magic book I read!). Love, Fran

  3. It sounds like things are mostly good, with just a few kinks to work out of the system.

And I agree with Fran... white noise may help desensitize Figlia. A low radio, a fan... just a suggestion

  4. The sleeping thing is a killer - and there's not much you can do about it. I hope Figlia will get used to the noises and take better naps, but by the time she does, she'll have transitioned to some other stage and things will change again. But, speaking your mind about nap times is probably a good way to move things in the right direction.

Glad to hear that you're otherwise satisfied!

  5. The good is good. Sleep will get better, and I am not just saying so to shut you up. George used to wake up if a page was turned, now if he needs to sleep, he sleeps, and couldn't care less about noise.

  6. And the rash - even I, who am supervigilant (as much as I can) sometimes fail to change G's nappy immediately after he poops, and 10 minutes later are enough to give him a rash - insane!! Can't wait for the time he is potty trained... Skipping the training as such. :-)

Season...

With very limited time and access to the netz, I just want to declare that Lady Season is here. She arrived last Wednesday, and I will someday in future speak of how due to SuperPed's preparedness a crisis was averted. I tend to have firework endings. Her with me, and my first chance of mothering is like a spray of cold water on my face. I am very sleep deprived. Apparently, wise birds said to me that I should sleep when the girl sleeps, but so far my body schedule and kid's schedule are haywire. I hope to be better adapted to this soon. It is tough for me to find net time as of now, and there are a couple of things I want to post online, since CBub's dates also passed by recently, but so far it does not seem to be happening. And I just want to say thanks. Even though I am craptastic at responding, I am reading off and on as I can manage.
