Story Bolts

Because I did not want to clutter her story with any more tidbits than the bites I added, I would just like to add that we would have wanted Figlia weighing a little higher than she did at her birth. (And then she lost some weight, as all neonates do, and she got slotted in the LBW kids, which irritates me.)

Surprisingly, the lagging weight, and lagging AC was visible in the ultrasounds. Nothing awfully wrong happened to exist with my daily diet and nutrition. However, I had some fluctuations in my weight during the end, and even though the baby continued to put on weight, it did not happen the way it should have.

In the end weeks too, Figlia gained on an average about 100 gms every week. In the very end, when the mystery for the weight issues did not get solved, my met.formin intake was halved. Figlia gained 100 mgs in 4 days flat!

I am not saying that ultrasound weight measurements are perfect, but there was general sense of progress/status with it....

Since then, I have been googling to see if there is any research on this - connection between met.formin and fetal weight, and it seems that there is no straight empirical evidence. In fact, there are studies both for and contrary to the proposition that there is a link between the medication and fetal weight. Obviously, none of the studies generalize their results. Also, a crucial detail that seems relevant is that met.formin is usually continued only till the end of the first trimester, and even if the intake is continued, the medication is discontinued at 28 weeks.

And here I was, on the medication, albeit with lowered dosage, till the very end. Maybe.

I later realized that my reaction of just touching Figlia all over, the first time I got to hold her is something that has fallen out from my brief time with CBub. That even if something happened to Figlia, atleast my gratification won't be incomplete on the end of sense of touch. Does that make sense?

I have become the kind of blogger I never have been. I don't reciprocate blog visits, I don't reply to mails/comments received, and I am rarely commenting these days. The biggest reason for this is 'time'. I am focusing my energy on writing everything I want to, and even though I keep sly tabs on my favourite peeps, I am not really saying anything much out here.

Hopefully, this will become better...but I can't say for sure when, and I definitely can say, that not-very-soon.

And the only reason I am saying this out loud is because, I know that my bloggy behaviour is not very pleasant at the moment.

  1. Don't worry about being "that kind" of blogger. People keep saying to me that they "don't know I do it" by keeping up with posting with a newborn, but that's really WHY i'm still posting - I know I (and hopefully Stella!) will love looking back and reading these posts someday, so I'm making writing those a priority more than commenting / replying to other people's writing for the time being. That's not a bad priority to have for awhile!

  2. Yes you should be spending this time taking care of the baby and you. And I think wanting to touch Figlia after your experience with C-Bub is understandable. I did the same thing with both my babies. I just wanted to soak them in. I love the way a new borns hair smells :)

  3. Ha! Who has time with a newborn? You are at the child's whims and mercies until further notice. I'm glad to hear that you're all doing well.

Of course you touched Figlia everywhere - you didn't have enough memories of CBub, so it's only natural that you would want to create as many as possible...just in case.

  4. When I read your reaction to being able to touch Figlia the first time was, if not expected, at least very normal given what you've been through.

And as for bloggy behavior... you have a far more important priority right now than responding to comments or commenting on other blogs. Cut yourself some slack

  5. Honey, your daughter grows and changes every minute, and you won't get that back. Don't steal time from her for something else. We have all been wishing for you to be so busy. :-)

Your reaction makes sense. She is precious. Send some more pictures when you get the chance. :-)

  6. oh pish posh! you've got a new baby and babies are very time consuming. no one expects proper responses from you until you are good and ready! i'm glad to here that figlia is gaining weight, sometimes it's slow going in the beginning so try not to worry too much about it.

  7. Figlia is here - healthy and happy, and thats what matters. As much as you would like to be in touch one on one with your bloggy buddies, things have changed... and so have your priorities. Enjoy the new you!

  8. When you look back on these early days with Figlia, you won't be wishing you had been a better blogger, you'll be wishing you could have taken it all in more (even if you are taking it all in as much as you can!). So, take it all in. Because she is here and she is, wonderfully, beautifully, yours.

  9. Your blogging behavior is JUST FINE! No worries!!!

  10. I was on Metformin until the end, and after... the only weight concern we had for Nombie was him being too big. At 34wks they guessed his weight at 6lbs by ultrasound, and when he was born at 40wks he was almost 9lbs. So I don't know if the Metformin played a part in her weight... we do all react differently to medication though, so it's hard to tell. With me, it made no difference though.

What you said about the touching makes sense to me.

And BTW, your blog behavior is just fine :) I really sucked at getting back to people... heck, I'm still slacking there. There just isn't much time in these first few months, it's always go-go-go! And really, sometimes it's hard enough to post what you want/need to. I have several drafts I've never gotten around to finishing, let alone publishing. Don't sweat it!

  11. You are so funny! No need to be forgiven, you SHOULD spend every available moment with Figlia that you want! (does not apply to showers & baby-free breaks). I think it's a good thing to post less. Means life is going well & you are caught up in it. :)

  12. Figlia is all the excuse you need. You are doing what your heart and mind and soul needs right now.

  13. Nah, don't worry about emailing/commenting, etc. Just keep updating your blog. I love hearing from you!!

Season...

With very limited time and access to the netz, I just want to declare that Lady Season is here. She arrived last Wednesday, and I will someday in future speak of how due to SuperPed's preparedness a crisis was averted. I tend to have firework endings. Her with me, and my first chance of mothering is like a spray of cold water on my face. I am very sleep deprived. Apparently, wise birds said to me that I should sleep when the girl sleeps, but so far my body schedule and kid's schedule are haywire. I hope to be better adapted to this soon. It is tough for me to find net time as of now, and there are a couple of things I want to post online, since CBub's dates also passed by recently, but so far it does not seem to be happening. And I just want to say thanks. Even though I am craptastic at responding, I am reading off and on as I can manage.
