Figlia is now seven weeks old. Just want to put out some updates here:
- Like I mentioned before, I now have a visual record of her fully awake smile...the conscious smile...not the sleep-induced one, of which there are lots of pictures.
- She had her routine vaccinations and weight check on Saturday, and she has gained a little more than 350 gms in 11 days, which is fantastic....am so happy about it. Thank you, thank you people for the support on breastfeed + top feed.
- I have a formula feeding schedule for her....She gets my milk through out the night...but she gets one 60 ml and one 30 ml feed in the morning, and three top feeds in the evening...in a combination of 30/60ml. Rest all feeds are from the breast. (This changed over the last two days)
- There is a sleep pattern that is now emerging....mostly helped by my gradual realizing of what makes her sleepy, and keeps her so.
- Figlia is a snuggler. I co-sleep. Once the last feed of the night is done - which is around 10:30 pm, she and I just cuddle and sleep. And in that way, she sleeps for 3 - 4 hours in a go! The 'in a go' is a transient phase...sometimes, she will squirm enough to make me think she is awake...but she is not. (This changed over last two days. She is now pooping during the night, taking 1 hour naps, and longer feeds in the night. Guess who all are awake in the night?)
- In the daytime, she tends to take a nap after her bath. Key is swaddling...
- I take walks with her every evening...don't imagine long ones....just enough to get us out of the house, and enough for the neighbours to go ga-ga over her.
- She also now seems to have a distinct playtime...for the first time I am able to clearly discern those phases where she is just kicking her legs and hands, making noises, or generally turning towards her musical toy...and it does not involve being held, or her being hungry or cranky at having been put down on the bed.
- We are talking.
- We are beginning to grab things - just beginning.
Question: Will I consider Figlia two months old when she hits eight weeks, or should I just do that generically on March 11?
Sounds like she's doing very well! Congrats Mommy!
ReplyDeleteShe sounds perfectly lovely! And the changes are to keep you on your toes. Because this is what babies do, teach flexibility, even when they are only an idea.
ReplyDeleteI went with counting the calendar months, since it is confusing applying the pregnancy counting to a baby (for everyone, not only for the fuzzy mummy brain). The date of 11 is also special for me :-).
If you only allot four weeks to a month, then you'll very quickly gain an extra month along the way. I find the easiest is to just do calendar months (also the 11th for us!), because then you don't have to keep track of how many weeks are in a month.
DeleteIt sounds like some great patterns are emerging, and that you are really getting settled into mommyhood!
ReplyDeleteAnd like the others, I would go with calendar months. It will make things easier in the long run.
I did calendar months too, made it easier as I lost track after a few weeks (ah sleep deprivation!).
ReplyDeleteGlad you have your self set up in a nice pattern and your getting out for walks! That was so important for us when they were first born, and they love going outside.
So wonderful!!! And belated thank you for the picture; she is beautiful. If you want to send any more pictures my way, I won't be upset (hint, hint!). Sending much love and wishing rest and lots of awake smiles for you and Figlia!
ReplyDeleteMarch 11, if you go by months. you can also go by weeks at the same time if you wish
ReplyDeletewow, i can't belive she's seven weeks already, time sure does fly!
ReplyDeleteI just counted weeks until it became cumbersome (about 3 months, maybe 4) and then switched to months (by date). She sounds delightful!
ReplyDeleteSeven weeks already! My goodness!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are both doing so well!
Calendar months, though I actually counted weeks for a long time -- then looking back, I'd think, "What in the world does 19 weeks translate to?" Months in half increments (3, 3.5, 4, 4.5...) were easiest for me to keep track of, and I still do it that way actually.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you and she are getting the hang of each other!
Love the updates :) Can't believe she's 7 weeks already!
ReplyDeleteso happy things are going so well!
