Things 'settled' down, if settling is what it is called, with Figlia from Day 6 onwards. By Day 10 onwards, I could actually point out that she would sleep immediately after her bath/sponging...and that this stretch would be the longest stretch of sleep she would be on.
She takes feeds throughout the day, and it is divided into mini/large feeds. And at night she usually takes several mini (short-duration) feeds and the long ones cause her to either doze off a while or we have poo business to take care of.
I read a long while ago in Reader's Digest is that the trouble with kids is that even though the expectant parents read Dr. Spock, the children don't! How true. For me, the magnitude sopped off only when it truly happened.
I still don't have sleep issue organized. But I am finally able to squeeze in a few minutes here and there. And the first night she let me sleep a whole two hours had me so happy that it was incredible. I never thought two hours sleep could have me so happy.
My mother has been a huge support to me. Hubby was here too, and he left late last week to UsualCity. Mummy takes care of the burping/nappy changing sort of thing at night, and I am usually at my wit's end by the time we reach the deep end of 4 o'clock in the morning. So her help keeps it a little sane for me.
Figlia smiles a lot. I haven't been able to capture anything on my camera, but her smiles are so precious.
And she shows a lot of her in-utero behaviour - her tendency to stick in multiple fingers into her mouth, or the way she positions her hands when she sleeps is what we have seen in the ultrasound.
And the lady rolls...I don't know how she does it, but she tends to roll herself onto her side. It is not a conscious roll, but she does do a 90 degree with her hands and feet. Sheesh!
I can now see, with far more clarity than before, how a baby can change our life...
I am smiling reading this
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you
you even sound different, momma!
So very happy for you... even with the lack of sleep. Much love!
ReplyDeleteLOL, this whole post made me smile.
ReplyDeleteLast night I was SOOO happy when Stella let me sleep for 3 hours. 3. After 6+ weeks, apparently that's a good number. Weird how life changes, eh? :)
Even after 17 months I could not say that I have the sleep thing organized... I do hope you get better at it than I did. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am very happy for you to hear that you have another set of helping hands around. It makes a lot of difference, for the better.
And I am happy for you period.
Wishing you the best,
This post makes me so very happy. Lack of sleep sucks but it's a good problem to have. {{{Hugs}}}
ReplyDeleteI love this...it brings me such joy to read about your escapades in motherhood. And I reminisce about being so tired at 3am that I cried like my baby and my hubby would take over so I could sleep. Ahhh those were the days. You'll get the sleep thing figured out, I'm sure. Just let her feed a lot in the late evening hours so she'll have a full tummy and don't let her sleep too much during the daylight hours. If you find her constantly sleeping during the day, wake her up! :-)
ReplyDeleteAwwwh so sweet ! Your baby is so beautiful, so happy for you ! And we're at 31 months and pretty much still not organized yet ... oops :p
ReplyDeleteSo sweet. Everything about this post is so sweet.
ReplyDelete(Except, of course, the sleep deprivation.)
I could not be happier for your without exploding.

ReplyDeleteYes, 2 hours of sleep never looked so good lol.
This makes me (like so many others) incredibly happy.
ReplyDeleteHere's to more sleep, soon!
Contentment shines through every word here. How wonderful for all of you!
ReplyDeleteI still think 2 hours of sleep at a time is a blessing
I am so glad things are going well! Sleep is eluding me also. It's worth it for our little ones though!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you....
ReplyDeleteLove,
Maddy
So happy that you know the chaos that is newbornhood. :) She sounds utterly delightful!
ReplyDeleteSmiles all around. Can't say that I miss those sleepless nights though. Bubba's still not sleeping through, but at least it's not every hour anymore :) Soak up the love!
ReplyDeleteI had this great long comment and my phone ate it. I HATE that.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm so happy to hear you are both doing well. I remember telling Skeeter, "I'm sorry but I'm new at this and you're going to have to be patient with me." Then I was shocked that logic didn't work with him. It must have been the sleep deprivation :-)
So, so happy for you!!
Dear friend, what wonderful news! I'm sorry I haven't dropped by sooner. The very day I got your message I had just been telling a close friend the story of you and CheekyBub. It made me smile to see that your ears were burning. Now, I find that a new season has already begun in your life. Where did the time go? No one deserves this more and I am so very happy for you. Take care of you and well come dear Figlia xx
ReplyDeleteAww she sounds like a handful!
ReplyDeleteSending much love your way, SO glad you are finding a new kind of happiness. <3

ReplyDeleteBah, I hate typos… let me try this again…
ReplyDeleteThe sleep part is incredibly difficult but will get better! And enjoy all those special little moments. They are yours to soak up and the awe never goes away.
So happy to hear you and your dear one are doing well. It is tough at the beginning, so make sure to not worry yourself about "getting it right"! Every thing is phases. :-)
