We were having a pregnant-bellies-abound time in our office in 2010. A woman was due in early 2010. Shortly before she gave birth, I learnt that I was expecting. And then there was this idiot colleague of mine who fell pregnant. (Seriously, go read that post if you want to know why I called her that plus it's funny too.)
She is due in May-end and she quit working in March-end. By the time I joined back office, she had already proceeded on her maternity leave.
So, this dear princess was being oohie and ouchie throughout her time. Everyone could see - "Ohh, I am pregnant, please treat me very well" pasted on her forehead for all the while she was in office.
She took it very easy. Imagine that January to March, she lived minus any classes and extra assignments in the office with-pay and all.
So anyways, standing outside our office loo (which is a great area for sharing juicy bits, btw), I was speaking to this colleague and I asked about our princess. Why did she have it so easy? The reply:
"No one wanted to take chances. Not after you."
*hug* I'm glad the princess isn't there to torment you.
ReplyDeleteThat's a bit of a strange comment... I mean, you certainly didn't take any chances, and being treated differently at your office wouldn't have changed the outcome of your situation. Can't be easy to hear people say things like that, even if they don't mean it in a bad way.
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh. THAT's nice :(
ReplyDelete{{{Hugs}}}
ReplyDeleteJaw. Meet floor.
ReplyDeleteSome people are just so beyond weird, it's like they open their mouth, let the crap pour out before ever giving it a second thought.
ReplyDelete@theluckylife took the words out of my mouth. UGH.
ReplyDeleteUgh.
ReplyDelete((HUG))
People are so clueless.
((HUG AGAIN))
WTF???
ReplyDeleteI am speechless. SPEECHLESS.
And sending love.
Love,
Maddy
oh my goodness. what else can i say?
ReplyDeleteArghhhh....Is it an Indian thing? or are most people this stupid?
ReplyDeleteApparently I have scared people enough to give them enough shivers.
ReplyDeletePeople rather than stupid are sheerly scared. In a way, they are glad that they know this can happen, but it is not them that it happened to. It happened to somebody they know.
Also, I was actually telling my colleague about why the princess was not roped in for non-teaching but regular assignments (such as viva duty, where we get to hear pearls of wisdom from students). This little princess spent her last month just sitting tight in her little cabin rising up only for food and loo duties.
When my colleague gave that answer (mentioned in the post)she meant not that I was the cause for her going early. But rather that all her workbluff was permitted because of me (who took complete load, did all the assignments and finished assessments well before the time to leave had come).
Way to make you feel good - both about the situation and about carrying the extra load...
ReplyDeleteSigh. Sounds like something I'd say. :)
People will do anything to find "reasons" for tragedy...then they can avoid those reasons and keep themselves "safe." A way of feeling control. Of course, none of us has control, do we? We can try and try but many tragedies have no "reason" no circumstance to be avoided to stay safe.
ReplyDeleteOH MY. People never cease to amaze me at what they will say.
ReplyDeleteI believe that you are right in your comment. When people actually know someone that something terrible happens to, it just hits home for them.
Hugs that you have to continually hear things like this.
