Grrr...

...is what I say when I sit down to write down and forget what it was I wanted to title the post.

Have you ever wondered about the difference between motherhood and the idea of motherhood? Those of us who have not had this easy to achieve and then have, has it ever felt that the dream we were running after and what it actually encompasses is different (in any degree)? I am not painting it in strong colours of black and white, just a random surge of thoughts in either direction would be good. Would love to hear your opinion on this.

Also, here is a 31w5d belly shot of yours truly. I had a mini-adventure transferring the pic from the camera to my PC, wherein I landed on my bum. Ouch!

I was instantly *oh-no & egad* and prayed hard for nothing adverse to have happened. So far, I am good.

And speaking of adventures, what would you like to do?

  1. That is one adorable belly! Interesting thoughts on weather actual motherhood and dreamed motherhood correlates. Looking forward to finding out :)

  2. I always knew motherhood was going to be tough! I have seen my sisters and know how difficult it can be. And it is WAY MORE difficult then I had imagined. Take for example the fact that I haven't had a decent night of sleep for the last 15 months! But each time I look at Danny, and remember the pain i went through (which was nothing compared to your struggle!) I just am overwhelmed with gratitude. Ok...done with my rant lol..LOVELY belly pic...

  3. Oddly, I was just thinking of this last night...After spending so long working toward pregnancy, I am starting to feel the reality of OMG a baby is growing and I am going to be responsible for it! I was writing a post in my head about just this topic! I have realized that I am TERRIFIED, and really (mentally) unprepared. I know the basics, but the rest? OH, BOY!

Anywho, you look fantastic as always :)

Adventure? Oh, wow. Ummmmm, I really want to do a big party for the eastern PA girls (and I think the couple just over in NJ). I would love to do a world trip that takes me to my bleeps around the globe. And I think the person you linked to actually lives in my area, too! She mentioned Sesame Place and the fact that Calliope is in Philly now, so she must be one of the Eastern PA girls :)

Ummm, I'm babbling. LOL. Happy Friday.

  4. Thanks for the link!

One thing I never anticipated was what it would be like to have a child look like you (or spouse) or act like you (or spouse). In my imaginations, I didn't want to assume that a child would look or act any way in particular, wanting them to become their own people.

In actuality, of course they are their own people, but one baby is the spitting image of my husband and one baby looks remarkably like me depending on facial expression. They both have personality characteristics of both and neither of us, but sometimes one baby acts sooo much like my husband that it's scary. And so real life is better and more wonderfully bizarre than I ever imagined.

  5. Beautiful belly shot!

I can't wait to hear (read) you write about the reality of motherhood and whether it is or isn't like your dream.

    It's getting close!

  6. My road to baby was not as difficult as yours, but I hope my input counts. ;-)

Over all, I would say that I find it easier to have a baby than I thought (and no, I did not think I would carry boulders every minute of the day, but I also knew I would not have leisure time as before). I ache more than I thought I would when my baby cries. I manage sleep deprivation way better than I expected, which is absolutely wonderful. I still miss a good night's sleep, but I am in no rush and I will appreciate it better when it eventually comes, right? I love breastfeeding more than I thought I would. I'm better at evaluating the time needed for an activity, am better organized and I forget less things at home (but I never have all I need...). I love being a mum so much that I am happier than I have ever been and I might have found my true calling here. It is not easy, but it is also more fantastic than I've ever dreamt.

  7. gorgeous, as always! very glad you're okay.

choose your own adventure: hmmmm.... well, i'd like to meet you. i like smart alecks. heehee. coincidentally, i've always wanted to go to india but dh hedges (he loves road trips in the USA).

re: motherhood. the shock of labour surprised me. and the tedium of the days surprised me (i am busy all the time with feeding, wiping, laundry, putting down a resistant child for her naps, etc.). that's about it. motherhood in my fantasy wasn't really that different from reality.

i should add that i was not surprised whatsoever about my love for my daughter. i loved her before she was conceived and so, when she finally arrived, i just thought with relief, "oh, there you are."

55 days - or thereabouts - left for you!
