I saw Kaiser (through Dr. BS) again on Friday night. I did not get a very good profile of the baby, as the baby was turned 'away'. Kaiser rested his/her hands over his/her head and that is the one thing I remember distinctly. Other things follow:
Le Good: I submitted my holy blood for a fasting sugar and hemoglobin test on October 21, 2010. The Good is that my sugar is well within range [82 mg/dL when the normal is between 74 - 100 mg/dL].
Le Bad: Hemoglobin is down to 10.7 gm/dL. The value at the beginning (in the tests run in the first trimester) was 12.0 gm/dL. What Dr. Google tells me is that during pregnancy, anemia is defined as Hb < 10 gm/dL. Also, there is hemodilution and that is why the bubba will tend to dip from the initial values.
What surprised me is that Dr. BS did not take the dip seriously though. After she thought I was humming on and on, she asked me to
- increase the number of times I feed myself.
- increase milk intake.
- turn Popeye
- and, maybe increase the iron supplementation to twice a day for a while. She asked me to take care about the possible consequence of constipation though.
My Blood Pressure registered at 140/80, which is the highest so far in all other readings taken for me.
Le Ugly: I am a princess, remember? What's ugly?

Glad Kaiser was so relaxed!
ReplyDeleteIron supplements taken with a little fruit or fruit juice are better absorbed and the fruit can help with any constipation issues.

congrats on your wonderful natural pregnancy! what a blessing, huh? so happy for you! just stopping over from ICLW (#31)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, chica. The docs will let you know if you really need to be concerned :) you guys are doing GREAT!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your attitude! My body does not do good with extra iron because I am naturally a little stopped up! So I get to monitor and increase my finer and water intake along with the extra iron. All the best.
ReplyDeleteCan't seem to spell in the morning... I meant to stay increase your fiber not finer! Sorry.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to see the little one :) Hope the upped iron and what not work out, sorry the doc didn't take things as seriously as you would like... that's always frustrating.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your suprise pregnancy!! And natural to boot! WOW! Happy ICLW! (#72 & 106)
ReplyDeleteYay on le good, boo on le bad, and of course, there is no le ugly!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the iron/anemia situation. You may have more energy if you get your levels back up.
I cannot tell a lie- I have been taking regular women's vitamins with folic acid instead of prenatals because of the side effects of the iron. Of course, I've upped my beef intake as well, and my Hgb has been great. But methinks beef is probably off your menu...
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by for ICLW with a big congratulations on your miracle pregnancy! Hope all continues to go well :-)
ReplyDeleteI do love that you're a princess. Being a princess is grand.
ReplyDeleteTeam Lola? Maybe?
Hi stopping by from ICLW...I take to slow FE Iron and it doesnt constipate me and I had this issue a lot in the beginning until I started taking Mama Calm every three days...Sounds like other than the Iron things are looking good:) Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteprincess? you're a queen!
ReplyDeleteNo worries - this pregnancy is perfect and will result in a perfect baby.
ReplyDeleteLOL at your last line, Princess!!
No ugly is right, princess! haha!
ReplyDeleteGlad everything is good, just needing a little iron.
"Hi Kaiser/Lola!"
If you take the iron supplement with some orange juice it will help with absorption and will also counter the constipation worries! Congratulations and best of luck in Feb! Jen ICLW 85
ReplyDeleteYou are doing fabulously but keep a close eye on that blood pressure.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kristin, bp is not to be trifled with.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, lovely news, princess. :-)
Sounds like things are going along just wonderfully. Congrats about the glucose and good luck with the iron. Between a nice round belly and Popeye arms, you'll look awesome :) Your belly pic in the post below btw, is beautiful. Happy ICLW!
