Curtains Shift

Scene 1: Thursday Night

Hello?

Yes, what is your weight?

What? Why?

Oh, I was at ABC’s. I was writing down your history. What is your weight?

Duh…PQ kgs.

Ok! Bye!

Scene 2: Friday Morning

…some topic…

…some topic…

You were sounding too rude last evening. And hey, BTW, when did you check your weight?

I don’t really remember exactly when actually.

Then how come you know it is PQ kgs?

I don’t. I was approximating.

The first scene starred yours truly and Mummy. The second scene starred yours truly and Prince Charming.

I feel bad for my mother sometimes. She is cracking her head completely fretting over her daughter’s trouble. But I also not want to feel like being discussed with everybody in her allied community. I know the colleague she had been meeting up was also into IF busting arena, but still.

I did not want to sound rude, but the realization hit me spontaneously, and my irritation crept in automatically.

It feels like an awesome Cardiologist is aware of his child’s heart condition that he has not been able to treat himself.

It is like looking at his frustration and thinking what others would be perceiving, that here was a good doc who could not help his own kid. My mother is kind of living in the same cardiologist analogy.

  1. You are her child, but it is still your life, your body.

IF's cruelty spreads out far and wide, doesn't it?

  2. I never realised that this was your mum's area of expertise... that does make it ever so slightly awkward and too close for comfort I guess - though i can imagine situations where that would come in handy too. But i also wouldn't want to be discussed by wider circle of colleagues who would obviously know you... eek.

  3. What a difficult situation. I imagine it is nearly impossible for your mom to keep her nose out of your conception business -- but she HAS to try, unless you ask for her input.

Sometimes I have to repeat to myself the immortal words of George's father on "Seinfeld": SERENITY NOW!

  4. IF was difficult enough for me to discuss with my Mom - if she were an OB it would be ten fold. Just repeat to yourself: She means well. And 'Serenity now!' is a good one, too!

  5. More ((hugs)). I'm sure the Mother and the Prince love you as best they can. Sometimes their best is not good enough, other times it will be more than enough. Hard for everyone. Damn IF.

  6. I guess I can understand it must be difficult for your mom to watch things unfold but watch from afar, not as center of the process. Bear in mind she loves you and wants to take care of what is causing you so much pain.

That being said, from the cultural perspective, it must be frustrating to discuss such topics with a parent who probably gets repeatdly asked (as do you) about plans for a family/grandchildren. I wish it were easier or there were surefire ways to get off the IF island. [[hugs]]

  7. Ugh. That's all I can say. Being asked about weight is the worst. Then add IF to the mix. Double Ugh.

  8. I hate that feeling that we're specimens to be viewed under a microscope, even from family members. ~Sigh~ Sorry you're getting stress about things!
