One Name’s Gone

Saturday morning a cousin was showing me random pics of the family when he showed the pic of his niece’s recent born son. The baby has a name that I had mentally finalized for my baby boy.

No this is not stealing. This is not having babies to assign those names to first.

And it reminded me so of a post by BabySmiling. Her question was almost prophetic.

  1. I prefer your take on it - it's not actually stealing, it's not being able to use it first.

I hope you get your baby boy and name him that name anyway - cousin's niece's son is heaps far enough away in the family.

    :o)

  2. @Pundelina: Deciding to use it anyways is quite an idea.

The boy names I had chosen were:
    A B Surname
    C D Surname

And C was taken. Now if I continue with the C D format, it won't be exactly like that mother's baby because he is just using C Surname.

Maybe.....but the absolute exclusivity is gone. I am surprised that somebody even considered the name because it is Arabic/African in its basic flavour.

  3. Aww. It still hurts to know that the name you had picked, that name, is taken. I hate that.

Yeah, you could technically still use it... but I know what you mean about the exclusivity being gone.

  4. I'm sorry the name was used before you could get it. But YES I absolutely agree with Pundelina, you can still use it also!! Sure, that person had their son FIRST, but even if you had used it years ago, I bet they would have as well. So there would still be another little guy with the same name, even if the order of birth was reversed.

If you love it, it's yours. We chose a traditional name for our son which is popular here in the U.S. But the name is still HIS in our eyes and we love it!

  5. Gah. That's so annoying. And, it sounds, surprising.

I bet it's a wonderful name. May you be on your way to using it in some form at this very moment.

  6. Another punch in the gut of the battle with waiting and waiting.

Still holding you in my thoughts.

  7. Ugh. Would feel very deflated at that news. Do you still want to use that name one day?

  8. I say, it's still your baby boy's name. Use it and love it as your intended. He will make it uniquely his own.

  9. Lots of {{{hugs}}} hon. I'm sorry.

  10. Unfortunately I don't think it's prophetic as much as inevitable -- if you're infertile long enough and you know enough babies who are born during that time, there's a pretty good chance.

I don't think D C Surname would make it non-exclusive at all. And the others are right, cousin's niece's son is very far removed, so using C D Surname shouldn't raise any eyebrows.

  11. Ugh, that sucks.
I agree that it's far enough removed that it wouldn't be weird to use C D Surname yourself, but that doesn't change the fact that someone else "got" their "C" first and it stings.

  12. Yep it is as you say, but it still sucks none the less.

  13. I hate that! That's why I kept my name mostly quiet from the online forum I'm on. Didn't want anyone to use it! ;) I agree with ppl, I think you can still use it.

  14. Even though you haven't birthed him yet, C D Surname still ~feels~ like your son. I am so sorry it was used first.

Who knows? Maybe once you meet your son, he won't feel like a C at all.

  15. A cousins niece? I agree with the others. I say use you name when you get the chance. I know of at least 3 or 4 kids on my Mom's family who were all named after my Grandfather's first and middle names. He loved having lots of kids in the family named after him. He was a like that and I was his favorite grandkid. ;-)

  16. I'm sorry. I know you could still use the name, but the exclusivity isn't there, then. :(

Season...

With very limited time and access to the netz, I just want to declare that Lady Season is here. She arrived last Wednesday, and I will someday in future speak of how due to SuperPed's preparedness a crisis was averted. I tend to have firework endings. Her with me, and my first chance of mothering is like a spray of cold water on my face. I am very sleep deprived. Apparently, wise birds said to me that I should sleep when the girl sleeps, but so far my body schedule and kid's schedule are haywire. I hope to be better adapted to this soon. It is tough for me to find net time as of now, and there are a couple of things I want to post online, since CBub's dates also passed by recently, but so far it does not seem to be happening. And I just want to say thanks. Even though I am craptastic at responding, I am reading off and on as I can manage.
