A little girl is accompanying her mother to a neighbour's house.

Girl: Mummy, am I healthy?

Mummy: Of Course, you are.

Two decades on, I am yet to ask my mother whether I am infertile. Not that I do not know, but I don't know when I grew up and stopped asking things or sharing my wonder of the world with her.
I would confirm almost everything with my mother.

Almost.

  1. My mother worries if she did anything to make me infertile. I think the sadness can be felt almost as much by them, I think.

  2. I tell my mother everything (probably too much). Some things we have to keep for ourselves, I guess.

  3. I totally get this post. My mother feels like she messed me up cos I have not been able to have a baby yet. Infertility and guilt? They are bed partners.

    Thinking of you.

  4. My mom is clueless when it comes to IF. Heaven knows I love her with all my heart, but she just doesn't get it. She actually told me to stand on my head after sex not long ago. I've actually stopped talking to her about it to save us both the stress.

  5. Me too. I confirmed all my doubts with my mother - and i think to some extent I still do. Maybe I never really grew up?

  6. The big "almost."
When we are small, they are all-knowing. When we grow, we must painfully find our own wisdom.

  7. It's incredibly hard to have a conversation about infertility with a woman who only planned 3 of her 4 children (the planned one NOT being me). :) We had our ups and downs, but I finally had to call her out on all the ways I felt unsupported. The difference has been night and day. I think she just didn't know what to say or what to do sometimes. It took a major bump in the road for me to formally cry for help, but I'm glad I did it. I need her, in whatever capacity she can give.

  8. I talk to my mother about everything. She has asked me several times, where did all these infertility problems come from? She feels sad for me.

  9. I'm sorry mate. I know I haven't been around, but have been thinking of you.

And to spare you, I won't even "start" about my mother. To put it simply, I won't go there, girlfriend.

  10. What an intriguing memory. I do miss the days when a little reassurance from my mother was all it took.

  11. I've given you an award on my blog. It should post within the hour.

  12. hmmm. I'm not one to share things with my mother. Maybe I used to. Don't know when I stopped.

I can't believe that AF beotch is still not here!

  13. I empathize.

I do blame my parents for my PCOS (which camouflaged our true IF problems for years, as you know). They never brought me to a doctor to diagnose my lack of menses, and our daily diet (white carbs, little produce, high fat) was terrible for my health. I can't tell them this, though.

  14. Though short, this post really packed a punch to the heart. Oh how I long for the long ago time of innocence.

I've presented you with a blog award. Stop by my pad to check it out.

    Thinking of you...

  15. Your post is very sweet. It was a lovely time to be able to ask these things and get reassuring answers from our parents.
My mother recently was making some very cruel comments about my husband. So to shut her up, I said I had part in this and that it was probably her falt since she smoked when she was pregnant with me. After all, a girl is born already with all the eggs she'll have in her life. That did shut her up. I guess now she is feeling guilty, because she has been offering for me to go to South America to do IVF there, she said she'll help me pay for it! I've been thinking of asking one of my aunts who had many problems ttc and loss. But with my own mother right now, the less we talk about this, the better. We are not even telling them we are trying again.
CD50?!! :O Girl, don't you think it's time to get a medical opinion on what's going on?

  16. Oh, to have my mom give me easy happy answers again.
