And How Big Are Your Children?

Possible Answers:

a) They could be three and a half by now.

b) Oh, in August 2010, they would have been celebrating their first birthday.

c) I do not have children.

d) My kids are younger than Nadya Suleman's 14.

The right answer is 'c'. Applause!

A workshop is being conducted in the institute and we have several delegates who have joined us from other places. Last evening, there was an outing to a local amusement park and most of my female colleagues, brought their children along.

So one of the delegates was enquiring kid count for all of us, and I was the last one she asked. When I gave my answer, I just moved away a bit. The usual second question after my 'None!' is as to how many years have I been married. And then, some funny advice either comes around or a bland 'huh' happens.

Anyways, that delegate spared me the second question. And I am so glad that she did.

  1. I'm so sick of being asked that question, too. I dread meeting new people sometimes - or even running into old friends/acquaintances - because I know what they're going to ask...

  2. Oh god... how much I hate the "how long have you been married?" question!!! I want to yell and say "forever... you point? Mind your own business!!". But never had the guts to actually say that! *sigh*!
Good that she spared you the pain!

  4. The "line of questioning" just really sucks..

    1. because we know what is coming before it is asked and still struggle with the answers.

    and

    2. because people aren't asking because they really want to know...they ask because it is family social small talk.

    Sorry...hijacked a little...backing away...now

  5. ahhh yes, the answer to that question is usually followed by some advice from the person who asked it like, "it will happen when it's meant to happen" or "maybe if you just relax and let nature take it's course it will happen." i want to say "wow, how profound, why didn't i think of that?" to these people.

  6. This is what I hate MOST about meeting new people, the whole vital statistics about your life. And people think nothing about their thoughtless questions and insinuations.

  7. I'm glad she spared you the second question.

Since I'm young people don't really ask me that, they're usually shocked when I tell them I've been married 3 years... if that tells you anything. Of course, once they hear about me being married for 3 years *then* they will usually ask the question. Ungh.

  8. I'm not sure what's worse- the line of questioning from strangers or those of aquaintances. Maybe they could all be novel and not go down that road in the first place... I won't hold my breath...

Glad you didn't have to go through the full interogation.

  9. I hate that question too, that awkward pau se and that well intentioned but fucking NOSY look they get in their eye about it.

sometimes, I want to shock them and say, "I have 6 dead babies, do they count?" just to watch the look of horror on their face, then the pity/sympathy. But I play nice.

Season...

With very limited time and access to the netz, I just want to declare that Lady Season is here. She arrived last Wednesday, and I will someday in future speak of how due to SuperPed's preparedness a crisis was averted. I tend to have firework endings. Her with me, and my first chance of mothering is like a spray of cold water on my face. I am very sleep deprived. Apparently, wise birds said to me that I should sleep when the girl sleeps, but so far my body schedule and kid's schedule are haywire. I hope to be better adapted to this soon. It is tough for me to find net time as of now, and there are a couple of things I want to post online, since CBub's dates also passed by recently, but so far it does not seem to be happening. And I just want to say thanks. Even though I am craptastic at responding, I am reading off and on as I can manage.
